Basic things to watch for when choosing a diamond

1.  Diamond length - the visual diametre of a diamond can vary between the same carat size stone in any shaped diamond.  The best examples of this can be two similar 1ct round diamonds both G/SI quality but one has a spread of 6.5mm and another is only 6.1mm.  The actual price of these diamonds will vary considerably and the smaller stone is technically to small to produce the best sparkle.  Which diamond would you choose?

2. Cut quality - all diamond will sparkle but many diamonds are cut with very poor proportions which can diminish the shine and colour of a diamond.  Again two diamond of G/SI can seem the same but when placed side by side the quality of the cut causes the two diamond to look completely different.  A "good" cut diamond can be fine once the certificate has been checked but a diamond of "very good" cut or better you know will always be within a very close margin on all points to being perfectly cut and without fault.
